Become a Partner School
Our Offer to Schools
We are delighted to be able to offer schools two exciting programmes for the academic year 2025/26.
Our referral programme to Future Youth Zone. Sign up to grant your students access to our classic storytelling programme used by over half of Barking and Dagenham secondary schools.
Our in-school programmes tailored to your needs. Become a flagship school by signing up for a storytelling intervention for a priority group of your students.
Referral Programme
Any secondary school in Barking and Dagenham can become a partner school and we work with any Year 9 or 10 student referred on by these schools in the amazing Future Youth Zone in Becontree. We have now worked with hundreds of young people referred from over half of the borough’s secondary schools, produced 16 anthologies of young writers, hosted dozens of public celebration across the borough and proved that every young person has a story to tell and the power to tell it. All you need to do is sign up and then each term refer on the young people you have identified as in need of storytelling support.
2. In School Programme
If you have a cohort of young people you want to reach with self-esteem boosting storytelling then we can come to you!
We are currently running a programme with Year 8 boys identified as priorities by the pastoral teams at Jo Richardson to build their self-esteem, express their experiences and develop their self-expression through writing. We are now opening up this opportunity for more schools to experience a tailored 10 week programme for a small group of students that includes group storytelling workshops, 1-1 coaching support and culminates in the public celebration of their stories.
We have secured part funding for these programmes but have only limited spaces so if you would like more information then please reach out.
Impact
Our storytelling programmes have a long track record of boosting self-esteem among young people.
More than 8 in 10 participants' self-esteem improves over the course of our programmes, on average by 23%.
Our impact is even greater on those who join with low self-esteem. 9 in 10 of those young people see improvements, on average by 50%.
At Write Back we believe that every young person has a story to tell and the capacity to tell it. By the end of our ten-week storytelling programme, young people don’t just share this belief, they have in their hands the means to prove it - a published book that tells their story to the world.
When young people are listened to, encouraged, and supported to share their own stories, they find something within themselves that is hugely valuable. They find self-esteem and agency – not just in the Write Back room, but for life beyond.
“It’s a great organisation and makes such a difference to the students. It’s great seeing the transformation from shy teenager to published author.”
